‘The Beatles’ First Look: Here’s Our First Glimpse At Sam Mendes’ Fab Four From His Upcoming Cinematic Event

Postcards hidden around the Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts today held a big surprise: the first glimpses at Paul MescalHarris DickinsonBarry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn as The Beatles in Sam Mendes‘ upcoming four-film series. The four postcards each feature one image of the actors as the band members they’ll play, and for the most part, the resemblances are uncanny.

The one outlier? Quinn as George Harrison, with his postcard proving the most divisive of the four. The other three achieve the look of their respective Beatles very well, though, especially Mescal as Paul McCartney. However, one image of Quinn as Harrison isn’t enough to write his casting off completely. Production on the four films has only just started, and maybe that’s the best pic Mendes could capture for Sony Pictures UK on short notice.

Mendes’ quartet of films is one of the most ambitious cinematic projects in recent memory. It’s four films total, each one devoted to a specific Beatle at an integral part of their time together as a band, shot back-to-back-to-back-to-back. The entire sequence will cost Sony Pictures UK $400 million, so $100 million per film. Shooting four films that expensive in a row will be a grueling shoot for the cast and crew; expect production to continue for well over a year.

A project this size is a big gamble, but Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman and Mendes have assembled quite the team to pull it off. Four actresses join Mescal, Dickinson, Keoghan, and Quinn on the films: Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Patti Boyd, Harrison’s wife of eleven years, and Mia Mckenna-Bruce as Maureen (Cox) Starkey, first wife of Ringo Starr. Mendes also tapped Greg Fraser as DP for all four films, and Jez ButterworthJack Thorne, and Peter Straughan to pen them.

So, when will Mendes’ “Four Film Cinematic Event” reach audiences? Sony currently has all four “Beatles” films slated to hit theaters in April 2028. Take a look at all four first-look postcards for the films below.
