A series of high profile names in the world of music have joined forces in a bid to help American guitarist Jerry Donahue who recently suffered a stroke.
Members of Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, the Beach Boys’ very own Brian Wilson and more have all signed a guitar which will be auctioned off to raise money for Donahue.
Donahue, who enjoyed heavy critical acclaim for his work with bands such as Fairport Convention and Fotheringay, didn’t enjoy the same commercial success as his counterparts and his family have been struggling financially since he suffered the stroke in 2016.
The Who’s Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Dire Straits’s Mark Knopfler and more have also signed the signature Jerry Donahue Telecaster which has been given an auction guide price of between £10,000 and £20,000.
Dave Pegg, the bass player with Fairport Convention and a key organiser behind the fundraiser, said: “They recognise he’s one of the greatest guitarists in the world with a unique style,” in reference to those who have joined the campaign.
“No one else could do the multiple string bends, which is why guitar legends like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page admire him so much.”
The guitar is being sold at Gardiner Houlgate in Wiltshire where auctioneer Luke Hobbs told the BBC: “This guitar has been signed by rock royalty.
“It’s like a Who’s Who of the greatest musicians the UK has ever produced.”
