The Beatles launched their career with a run of hit singles that seemed like it would never end. They introduced themselves to the world with dozens of tunes that bounded up the charts and turned them into global superstars nearly overnight—and which ensured they remained among the bestselling and most adored names in the music industry for decades to come.
Two of the band’s earliest singles are back on the charts in the United Kingdom this week. The tracks, which have already sold incredibly well since they were released more than a half-century ago, both manage to debut on tallies they’ve never reached before—several of them at once, actually.
“I Want To Hold Your Hand” is the bigger win between the two, and it easily outpaces the other new arrival from The Beatles. The smash nearly brings the rockers back to the top spot on several lists, but it fails to conquer by just one space—though it does enter the top 10 on all three rosters it reaches this time around.
The Beatles debut “I Want To Hold Your Hand” at No. 2 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts. The same cut is also new to the Official Singles Sales list at No. 4.
At the same time that “I Want To Hold Your Hand” gets its start on those three purchase-only rankings, The Beatles’ “All My Loving” also debuts, though it doesn’t climb nearly as high. That slightly later cut opens at No. 28 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. It’s also new to the Official Physical Singles list at No. 34, giving the group another top 40 hit on both of those rosters.
Both “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “All My Loving” were re-released for Record Store Day 2024. The former track arrived recently on a seven-inch vinyl, with “I Saw Her Standing There” as the B-side. “All My Loving,” meanwhile, was offered for sale on a relatively rare three-inch wax record, and both became quick bestsellers.
The Beatles released “I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1963 as one of their first singles, and it also earned the band one of their earliest No. 1s on the main songs chart in the U.K. “All My Loving” arrived months later, and though it wasn’t officially promoted as a single in the group’s home nation—at least not initially—fans have turned it into a hit now.
