Couple gets engaged on stage with Paul McCartney during his ‘Got Back’ tour Chile stop

They plan to exchange vows to the tune of McCartney’s 1970 classic ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’

Paul McCartney helped a couple get engaged on stage during a soundcheck ahead of his ‘Got Back’ tour stop in Santiago, Chile, on Friday (October 11).

The music icon noticed Chilean couple Yamil Alamo and Leonora Pereira, dressed as 1970s versions of himself and his late wife Linda McCartney, holding a sign that read: “Paul: Give us a handshake and we’ll get married.”

During the soundcheck at Estadio Monumental, Santiago, The Beatles star invited the couple on stage. Alamo knelt down and proposed to his girlfriend of six years in front of McCartney.

The couple, who are from La Serena, 400km from Santiago, had previously travelled internationally to attend Paul McCartney’s concerts and consider themselves big fans. They plan to exchange vows to the tune of McCartney’s 1970 classic ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’.

“This was a very special moment for us because for many years we have tried to meet him and today is the day! I don’t have words to describe the experience,” said Alamo.

McCartney is currently on his ‘Got Back’ tour, which is set to continue across South America, the UK and Europe over the coming weeks. He performed The Beatles track ‘Now And Then’ live for the first time at his stop in Uraguay earlier this month.

Arriving in November 2023, ‘Now And Then’ was released as the “final” song to be shared from the Liverpool four-piece. It was made with the help of AI technology, and the last track to include all members: McCartney, Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison and John Lennon.

The former Beatles star is due to arrive home on UK shores this December, which will include two shows in Manchester and two in London. You can purchase any remaining tickets here.

In other Beatles news, a new documentary titled 1964 is coming to Apple TV+ this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the group conquering the United States.
